Sleaze and Staring

this is partly a response to some posting son the US based chasite that I'm a part of.

From what I can tell - the US seems to be a LOT more
hung up than australia. Someone posted a notice about a teacher who inisited that male models wear short sor underpants whitle modelling.

Generally I think sketch clubs are a pretty soft
target for the sleaze factor - In the era of string
bikinis and mass porn it is such a coy setting anyway!
I *have* modelled and drawn at sketch clubs that I've
found sleazy - I'm also caught sleazy trains, waited
at sleazy bus stops and been to sleazy supermarkets!
smut is everwhere!

For me the life class is weird - because it is both
really coy and protective and denying of sexuality -
and at the same time there are so many experiences or
reminders of expereinces that are quite sexual. SOme
models are really sexy - and there are all different
was that models project their sexuality - and equally
with drawings - as many are dodgy porno kitsch - (and
so many of mine are just dodgy) - and then every now
and then - there is a really erotically charged
powerful drawing............ - I don't think such
things can be reduced to the amount of sexual activity
an artist may be having in the rest of their life - or
how much sexual or physical awareness artists have -
sex, like creativity is a strange beast
indeed.........

apart from blushes and smut - I've had so many strong
reactions in a life class - models or poses have made
me sad, angry or hysterical with laughter. SOme models
have reminded me of people who have died - and grief
is something for me that is far more charged than
being sexually aroused by someone......... Also
wathicn a model who is in pain or obviously really
uncomfortable with thier body - is really difficult to
draw........

Months and months ago - I had someone email me - I think it was a repsonse to this blog - asking all aobut their penis. (sometimes my life is too funny to believe!!!!!)

He said that he was a life model and ketp asking again ang aagai - what he should do if he got an erection, or what if people throught his penis was too big.

He was almost certainly having a tug while writing the above questions and it made me chuckel as I wrot einnocent and ernes treplies - asking him if he felt the same anxieties about his testicles (they could shrink too you know - and people might see them).

Its so boring in a way - but also so silly - silly enough to be interesting. Becasue many men seem to be insanely self consicous - not about theyr tummies, thighs bums, pimples, hairs - but one smalll peice of flash between their legs.

Penises often move in a pose - its kind of par for the course.

I've been doing my interviews - and so far - in terms of sexually threatening or innapropriate behaviour -
random penises seem to be low on the score card. also - mercifully the male models I've intervies have NOT mentioned their penises at all.

Most female models and artists seem to be more upset by what men do with their eyes (there are ways of
staring that are really problematic) and the rest of their body

(touching is a nono - & walking around naked in the breaks - going right up to drawers while starkers - ain't great
either. CHatting up drawers - and doing really ball based crotch shots - not a good look)
